Let’s start with the basics of LUTs

Let’s start with the basics of LUTs

What is a LUT? LUT stands for “Look Up Table”. It’s a table of values that spells out how to transform specific colors in your film to match the “look” of the LUT pack provided. This means making specific colors brighter, or darker, or adjusting the color values based on the LUT you choose.

LUTs are great for camera testing, mixing with other grades in post, and the Previz / Ideation / Look Development, using the monitor as a ” lookbook”. What LUTs are not good for is a one-and-done “magic bullet” for an entire project or as a substitute for manual color correction / shot matching / color grading (or any on-set department).

Download this free “Cinematic Looks” pack, which includes LUTs that have been designed to mimic color grades from various films for use on camera or in post to quickly try out new look ideas.
